VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

on Sept. 19th at Abendroth Dog Park in Port Chester, NY

We are in need of volunteers to be Club Boosters and share the benefits and fun of taking classes at PCOTC. The event is 11am-2pm.

11th Annual Paws Crossed Day - Sept 19 - FDR Park, Yorktown 11am-3pm

PCOTC is excited to be participating in another rescue community event. Participating in our local animal rescue events is an awesome way to highlight the importance of dog training, especially when bringing a new member home. We will need volunteers for our Vendor Tables.

Jobs will include:

  • Set up/break down of table, tents, and material

  • Share the awesome classes we have a PCOTC and distribute promotional material (paper copy so they do not forget how awesome we are)

  • Be a friendly PCOTC Club Booster. Friendly dogs are encouraged to represent the club also! Great way to show how important dog training is

  • Taking photos of our participation - make some room on your phone photo storage!

AKC ACT (Agility Course Tests) - September 27th

As you all know, in order to have successful (and more) agility trials, volunteers are needed! We have an upcoming ACT towards the end of the month that is in need of volunteers. There are several positions available and some do not require experience at all!

  • Volunteer coordinator - requires agility knowledge. Job includes recruitment, scheduling, and on-site management (if interested, please contact Jane McLoughlin (jcmaussieluv@optonline.net)

  • Trial Jobs:

    • Course builders - Experience needed. Help setup the course. This is easier with multiple people! Get your workout on carrying sand bags and moving the dog walk. About 3-4 volunteers

    • Leash Runners - No experience needed. Get your steps in running leashes. About 2 volunteers

    • Bar setters - No experience needed. About 4 volunteers

    • Gate - No experience needed. Man the gates! About 2 volunteers

    • Timers - Experience needed. Start/stop timers as accurately as possible. Keen eye is helpful! About 2 volunteers

October 4 - PCOTC Scent Work Trial - The Mead School - Stamford, CT

We are looking for volunteers to help with our scent work trial in Stamford, CT. There are several positions available!

  • Parking Lot Manager - Guide to the parking area and then assist tent manager to call teams up. YOU GET TO USE A MEGAPHONE (FUN) - No experience needed!

  • Tent Manager - Update white board so teams know what class is running and when results are in - some experience will be helpful

  • Manager of the Ribbons, Raffles, and Results - give our ribbons and congratulations! Collect raffles. - some experience will be helpful

  • Traffic flow direction - guide teams to where they need to go, help keep distance between teams/dogs - No experience needed

  • Distribute judging slips - guide teams to staging chairs where they wait their turn (also calm any jitters). Distribute judging sheets - No experience needed

  • Tablet/Gate stewards - the honor of using the special tablets to check teams in as they enter the staging area. Send teams to search area when judge signals - Some technology skills would be useful

  • Official timers - Stopwatch pros this is a job for you. Start the timer when the nose crosses the startline! - No experience necessary, get to watch the searches!

  • Judge’s steward - open doors/wave to tablet/gate steward for next team to head to search area. Friendly face when teams arrive (and also calm down jitters). Get to award teams with green qualifying ribbon or NQ raffle ticket and escort to exit - Great for new scent work students to see what trialing is all about

  • Scores/Results runners - If you like to run, you get to collect score sheets from judges run them to the score room! Deliver result sheets/stickers to ribbon table. Just kidding, you can probably walk.

  • Hospitality Director(s) - Handles the food, beverages, utensils, paper products for breakfast and lunch for volunteers and judges. Coordinate food requirements. Make sure food is set aside for judges. - Great for early birds and those that do not want to spend an entire day at a trial

  • Floater/Runner/Reliever - back up for any post that needs relief due to early departure, restroom brreak, etc. - Experience is beneficial
