Rally Obedience Rally was created to promote a positive relationship between the dog and his/her owner, and encourage continued obedience. Rally was designed with the pet dog owner in mind, as a way to introduce them to the world of dog sports and for people to just have fun with their dogs. · Once you complete a Basic 2 class, your dog has the skills to begin working in this exciting new sport that is a fun, upbeat way to build on obedience skills and build greater teamwork. · Rally is the perfect place to start out young dogs to prepare for a future in Obedience, Agility or any sport. · Also great for bringing your older dog out of retirement! Some have described Rally as a combination of Agility and Obedience. It’s like Agility in that you face a numbered course set in a different pattern each time—you never know what the course will be until you get there. It’s like obedience in that at each number is a sign with an exercise on it. The exercises are basic obedience cues-sits, downs, stays, fronts and finishes. Advanced and Excellent classes introduce jumps, distractions, pivots, stands and heeling backwards! The emphasis is on fun and excitement for the dog, handler and spectator by encouraging a less formal approach to performance by allowing the handler to talk to, encourage and praise their dog throughout the entire performance. Precision is not required; emphasis is on teamwork and the handler’s accuracy. Perfect heel position is not required but you must maintain a loose leash at all times. No group sits/downs or out of sight stays; lower jump heights (maximum is 16” great for veterans or young dogs). A more relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place for nervous dogs (and handlers) to get their feet wet or work through ring stress. Rally Classes at PCOTC PCOTC’s rally program offers instruction in Beginning Rally where you will learn all the Novice exercises and Advanced Rally covering the Advanced and Excellent exercises. APDT Levels 1 and 2 are covered too. We teach the exercises with positive reinforcement and patience. PCOTC is proud to be a leader in Rally Obedience being one of the first clubs to offer classes for both AKC and APDT style rally. Join us for the fun, your dog will love you for it and you’ll love his/her better behavior at home and on the town!
